A day after the Bharatiya Janata Party’s decisive victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya on Tuesday urged the administration to take firm action against those involved in post-election violence, irrespective of their political background.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the party’s senior leadership at the BJP’s office in Bidhannagar, Bhattacharya said incidents of violence in the aftermath of the elections would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He warned that if any BJP worker is found participating in such activities, the party would take strict disciplinary action, including expulsion.
“Violence after elections has no place in democracy. If any member of our party is found involved in such acts, we will not hesitate to remove them,” he said.
Bhattacharya also appealed to Uttarakhand cadre IAS officer Dushyant Nariala, currently serving as the state’s Chief Secretary, to ensure immediate administrative action wherever incidents of violence are reported.
He said the people of West Bengal had voted for change and expected a governance model based on law, order and accountability.
The BJP leader thanked voters across the state for giving the party a decisive mandate and also expressed gratitude to migrant workers who returned to their home constituencies to participate in the electoral process despite logistical challenges.
Party sources said a high-level meeting was held at the BJP’s Bidhannagar office earlier in the day, attended by central observers and senior state leaders, to review the post-result situation and discuss measures to maintain peace and order.
According to sources, discussions also focused on ensuring there is no repeat of the violence reported after the 2021 Assembly elections, when the BJP had accused the All India Trinamool Congress of targeting its workers.
The BJP has secured 207 seats in the 293 constituencies where polling was held, giving the party a two-thirds majority and paving the way for its first government in the state. The Trinamool Congress has won 80 seats.
Bhattacharya also urged party workers and supporters to celebrate responsibly and ensure that victory processions do not disturb public peace.

“I appeal to all our workers to celebrate with restraint, respect public sentiment, and ensure that no one is harmed or offended in the name of victory,” he said.
