West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the immediate suspension of two Motor Vehicle Inspectors posted at the Rampur checkpost in Paschim Bardhaman after they allegedly harassed a goods carrier driver and demanded an unlawful bribe.

Suvendu Adhikari declared that extortion and administrative abuse will not be tolerated under any circumstances, following a swift transport department crackdown on checkpost officials who illegally seized the truck.

Suvendu Adhikari, in a post on X, emphasised the administration's strict action and detailed the suspension order of of the officers.

He wrote, "Zero Tolerance for Corruption: No One is Above the Law. "The Government of West Bengal maintains an absolute "Zero Tolerance Policy" against corruption at any level of Administration, department, or Government. Extortion and Corruption will never be tolerated under any circumstances, and we are firmly committed to weeding out corrupt elements to completely cleanse our Administrative system."

He further outlined the specific sequence of events involving the targeted vehicle and its crew.

He wrote, "Incident & Complaint Details: Goods Carrier Truck No. JH09BA3535 (Owner: Dipak Singh, Driver: Shiva Yadav), while returning to the garage after servicing, the truck was wrongfully intercepted by Officials at the Rampur Checkpost in Paschim Bardhaman. The driver was illegally harassed and pressured for bribes and upon refusal, the vehicle was seized, and an unlawful demand of ₹22,000 was raised towards a tax already abolished by the State Government."

Detailing the swift departmental measures initiated to protect commercial drivers from harassment, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari stated, "Action Taken - Acting swiftly on complaints of extortion and abuse of power, the Transport Department has taken immediate and decisive action."

Reiterating the state government's zero-tolerance mandate regarding administrative misconduct, West Bengal CM stated, "The erring Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVIs) posted at the Rampur Checkpost - Shri Nazimul Haque and Shri Anupam Banerjee have been placed under immediate Suspension with immediate effect under Rule 7(1)(a) of the West Bengal Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1971. The complaints have been formally referred to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for a thorough criminal inquiry and necessary legal action."

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari further issued a strict warning across state administrative departments, cautioning that any public servant found engaging in illegal gratification or extortion will face severe disciplinary and legal consequences.

"Directives are being implemented to ensure that wrongfully detained vehicles are released and that harassment of Transporters is dealt with an iron fist. A Stern Warning: Let this serve as a clear message to all corners of the Administration. Any Official found indulging in corruption, harassment or illegal gratification will face the strictest possible disciplinary and legal consequences. We are dedicated to ensuring a transparent, fair and corruption-free Administration," he wrote.
