Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi on Monday likened the journey towards building a ‘Viksit Bharat’ to the making of a film, telling young people that they would play multiple roles as “actors, directors, producers and even the audience” in shaping the nation’s future.
Addressing a gathering of NCC cadets, the Navy chief highlighted the central role of youth in achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047. He said young people, who constitute nearly 65 per cent of the country’s population, will be in leadership positions by then and must shoulder the responsibility of nation-building.
Drawing inspiration from tennis legend Roger Federer, Admiral Tripathi stressed the importance of sustained effort and resilience. He also recalled the courage and sacrifice of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetrapal during the 1971 war to emphasise the significance of moral courage and selfless service.
The Navy chief urged cadets to cultivate discipline, teamwork and unity of purpose, asserting that no institution or nation can progress on individual talent alone. “Individual brilliance has its place, but it is teamwork that drives lasting success,” he said.
He added that when youthful energy is channelled collectively towards a common goal, it can become a powerful force in India’s development journey. “If this energy and team spirit are aligned with a shared vision, they will propel the nation towards becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047,” he said.
Admiral Tripathi said he was not placing undue pressure on the youth but reminded them that, as the largest demographic group, they would inevitably play a decisive role in the country’s progress.

He also called on young people to rise above narrow self-interest and abandon the mindset of personal gain. “When the organisation you serve or the nation grows, recognition and success will follow naturally,” he said.
