As Hockey India prepares to host the 8th Annual Awards 2025 on March 27 in the national capital, Indian hockey players Hardik Singh and Navneet Kaur have expressed gratitude after being nominated for the prestigious Balbir Singh Sr Award for Player of the Year.
Alongside the top honour, Hardik has also been shortlisted for the Ajit Pal Singh Award for Midfielder of the Year, while Navneet is in contention for the Dhanraj Pillay Award for Forward of the Year, reflecting their consistent performances over the past season.
Both players played key roles in India’s international campaigns in 2025. Hardik was instrumental in the team’s gold medal victory at the Asia Cup in Rajgir, delivering impactful performances in midfield. Navneet, on the other hand, starred in the Women’s Asia Cup, where India secured silver, with her six goals proving crucial. She also reached the milestone of 200 international appearances during the tournament.
Navneet continued her strong form at the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers in Hyderabad, where India again finished with a silver medal. She emerged as one of the top performers, scoring four goals and earning the Player of the Tournament award.
Reacting to his nomination, Hardik said such recognition validates the hard work and commitment athletes put into the sport. Reflecting on the past year, he described the Asia Cup triumph as a standout moment, especially given the team’s struggles leading into the tournament.
He also credited his passion for hockey and the support of his teammates and family for his consistency, adding that he remains focused on upcoming major events, including the FIH Hockey World Cup and the Asian Games.
Navneet also welcomed the nominations, calling them a source of motivation for players. She acknowledged the support of her family and teammates, noting that their encouragement has been vital to her journey.
Looking back, she described the Women’s Asia Cup as a memorable experience, particularly as it marked her 200th match for India. She attributed her recent form to sustained effort, continuous improvement, and growing experience.
