Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made headlines at the IPL mini auction on Tuesday after securing Australian all-rounder Cameron Green for a record-breaking Rs 25.20 crore, while Indian batters Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan failed to attract any bids.

Green’s price eclipsed the previous record for an overseas player at an IPL auction, surpassing fellow Australian Mitchell Starc’s Rs 24.75 crore tag. The bidding for Green turned into a fierce contest between KKR and Chennai Super Kings, with the Kolkata franchise eventually emerging victorious.

Despite the hefty auction figure, Green will earn Rs 18 crore (approximately USD 1.9 million) for the season. As per auction regulations governing overseas players, the remaining amount will be allocated to the BCCI’s player development programme.

The 25-year-old all-rounder has previously represented Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL. In 29 matches so far, Green has scored 707 runs and claimed 16 wickets, establishing himself as a valuable asset across formats.

Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw went unsold despite strong recent performances in domestic cricket, raising eyebrows among fans and experts alike. Sarfaraz Khan also found no takers, even after smashing a rapid 22-ball 73 for Mumbai in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match earlier in the day.

The auction produced several surprises, but Green’s record deal and the absence of bids for Shaw and Sarfaraz remained the biggest talking points of the evening.
