Kargil's cricket sensation Maqsooma gets support for honing her skills

After the video of Maqsooma, the 6th standard student of Kakasar, a village in Kargil, Ladakh, playing cricket went viral on Twitter and she became an instant celebrity, the government sent her surprise gifts.
Secretary Youth Services and Sports UT Ladakh Ravinder Kumar and District Youth Services and Sports Officer Abid Ali presented a cricket set to Maqsooma at a small function. It may be recalled that the video of Maqsooma playing cricket with her father was posted on social media by the Directorate of Education, Ladakh.
Akhtar Hussain, Headmaster of High School Kaksar, officials of DYSSO Kargil, staff members of GHS Kaksar, and students were also present in the prize distribution ceremony.
 
The video presented Maqsooma as a budding cricket talent from Kargil. It went viral on social media and national channels interviewed Maqsooma.
Maqsooma told the media that Virat Kohli is her favourite cricketer. She has been learning cricket from her father since her childhood. “MY father teaches me how to play cricketer. I have picked some tricks from him and am still learning.”
She said: “my father throws a helicopter shot (a classic shot of M S Dhoni) and I hit the ball and then run for two runs.”
 
The Department of Youth Services and Sports Kargil has come forward to help her, seeing his passion for cricket. The department is committed to supporting athletes in every sport to achieve their goals in their respective sports.
Headmaster GHS Kaksar praised the Department of Youth Services and Sports for providing the cricket kit and support to the girl cricketer.
