Hardik Pandya, captain of Mumbai Indians, has been fined 10 per cent of his match fee and handed one Demerit Point for violating Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Wednesday.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the IPL said Pandya breached Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to the abuse of cricket equipment, clothing, ground equipment, fixtures or fittings during a match.

The incident took place on the fourth ball of the 10th over in the second innings when Pandya, while returning to his run-up, forcefully struck the bails off the stumps.

The Mumbai Indians skipper admitted to the offence and accepted the punishment imposed by match referee Rajiv Seth.

Pandya had returned to the Mumbai Indians playing XI after missing three matches due to injury. His previous appearance before the KKR clash came against Chennai Super Kings on May 2.

In the match, Kolkata Knight Riders elected to bowl first after winning the toss. A late unbeaten knock of 32 off 18 balls by Corbin Bosch, featuring three fours and two sixes, helped Mumbai Indians post 147/8 in 20 overs. Saurabh Dubey, Kartik Tyagi and Cameron Green claimed two wickets each for KKR.

Chasing the target, Manish Pandey and Rovman Powell led the scoring for Kolkata. Powell contributed 40 runs off 30 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes, as KKR reached the target in 18.5 overs with four wickets in hand.
