Fast bowler Henil Patel produced a sensational spell to claim five wickets as India bundled out the USA for just 107 in 35.2 overs in their opening match of the ICC Under-19 World Cup here on Thursday.
Exploiting helpful overcast conditions after India elected to bowl, the right-arm seamer returned figures of 5 for 16 from seven overs, including a maiden, to dismantle the American batting lineup.
Henil made an immediate impact, removing Amrinder Gill (1) in his opening over after the batter edged to slip fielder Vihaan Malhotra. Fellow pacer Deepesh Devendran then struck to dismiss Sahil Garg (16), with Henil completing the catch at third man, leaving USA at 29 for 2 inside nine overs.
The collapse deepened when Henil delivered a decisive over, accounting for captain Utkarsh Srivastava for a duck and wicketkeeper Arjun Mahesh (16), reducing USA to 35 for 4. Leg-spinner Khilan Patel added to the pressure by trapping Amogh Arepally (3) shortly after his introduction.
Nitish Sudini offered brief resistance with a 52-ball 36, hitting four boundaries and sharing a 30-run stand with Adnit Jhamb (18). However, the partnership failed to revive the innings.
Henil returned to clean up the lower order, dismissing Sabrish Prasad (7) and Rishabh Shimpi (0) to complete his five-wicket haul as USA were dismissed inside 36 overs.
India are placed in Group B alongside Bangladesh and New Zealand.
