Indian Muslim leaders have condemned the barbaric lynching of a Hindu labourer in Bangladesh on the pretext of Blasphemy and said such acts in the name of Islam are utterly shameful.

Dipu Chandra Das, 25, was beaten to death in Mymensingh's Bhaluka outside a garment factory where he worked for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Islam.

On his lynching and barbarism around it, Maulana Mahmood Madani, President, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has said it was a “very shameful.”

“When Muslims do such things, we hang our heads in shame, and this cannot be condemned enough.”

He said, no one in a civilised society should have the right to kill another human being. No matter how wrong someone has acted, there is a process for punishment, and that process should be followed.

Maulana Madani said, “If the perpetrators are Muslims and the victim is a non-Muslim, then the crime becomes even more heinous.”

Condemning the act, he said, “We strongly condemn this...Killing someone, or even humiliating someone, is something that Islam does not permit. Islam does not permit it at any cost. No amount of condemnation is enough.”

He however regretted that extremism was increasing throughout the Indian subcontinent, and it must be curbed. It must be countered in this region and worldwide. The world is also facing a similar situation, which must be countered..."

Dr. Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi, leader of All India Imam Council said, the barbarism shown by the killers of Dipu Chandra Das has shamed humanity.

Calling for intervention by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh should be of concern to the world. He questioned the silence of human rights organization and particularly the United Nations Human Rights Commission on the reign of terror let loose of minorities in Bagladesh.

He asked Bangladeshi to ponder on their behaviour and remember that India had always supported their country be it for infrastructure development or financial aid.
