When Prime Minister Narendra Modi joins Sheikh Hasina in celebrating the centenary of the Father of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rehman in Dhaka on March 26, all the 100 Indians accompanying him will be seen wearing ‘Mujib jackets’ made of khadi.

These jackets have been specially designed for the occasion by the state-owned Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

The gesture is obviously aimed at serving two purposes: one of conveying to people of Bangladesh India’s deep respect for Bangabandhu as Mujib is popularly called and the other of showcasing the KVIC as a very Indian brand in the letter and the spirit.

PM Modi begins his two days visit to Dhaka on March 26

The order for 100 Mujib jackets in black colour were placed by Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka. These jackets made of high-quality handcrafted poly Khadi fabric is specially designed for the occasion.

The jackets replicate the jacket worn by Bangabandhu  - six buttons, two pockets on the lower half and a front pocket on the left.

Interestingly, the jackets are packed in black khadi cotton fabric cover with Khadi India's logo embroidered over it.

Adding another Indian innovation in the package, the jackets will be carried in specially designed plastic-mixed handmade paper carry bags made at KVIC's Kumarappa National Handmade Paper Institute (KNHPI) in Jaipur.

Chairman of the KVIC Vinai Kumar Saxena said, "Mujib jackets made of Khadi will add significantly to the historical and cultural values of the celebrations.”

The KVIC has already dispatched  the consignment of 100 jackets to Dhaka.
