During his participation in the 52nd G7 Summit in Évian, France, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a specially curated selection of Indian products to global leaders, showcasing the country’s traditional knowledge systems, natural farming practices, and rich artisanal heritage.
The gifts included Nagauri Ashwagandha, Ramban Honey, Lakadong Turmeric, and a Banarasi silk stole—each representing distinct regional identities and India’s long-standing cultural and agricultural traditions.
Ramban Honey, sourced from Jammu and Kashmir’s Chenab Valley, is known for its natural purity and unique flavour derived from Himalayan flora. The honey is produced by local beekeepers using traditional and eco-friendly methods and is valued for its antioxidant and medicinal properties in Ayurveda.
Lakadong Turmeric from Meghalaya’s Jaintia Hills, recognised with a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, is widely regarded for its exceptionally high curcumin content. Cultivated using traditional farming techniques, it is used both in Indian cuisine and Ayurvedic practices for its anti-inflammatory and health benefits.
Nagauri Ashwagandha from Rajasthan’s Nagaur region, also GI-tagged, is known for its high withanolide content. A key herb in Ayurveda, it is associated with stress relief, immunity, and overall wellness, and supports rural livelihoods in arid farming regions.
The Banarasi silk stole from Varanasi highlighted India’s centuries-old weaving tradition. Known for its intricate zari work and fine craftsmanship, Banarasi silk remains one of India’s most celebrated textile exports and supports artisan weaving communities.
According to officials, these gifts were intended to highlight India’s sustainable practices, indigenous knowledge systems, and the contribution of traditional industries to rural economies.
The G7 Summit in Évian brought together leaders including those from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and several partner countries. Discussions during the summit focused on global economic stability, technology governance, and cooperation with the Global South.
