New Delhi

Operation Dost launched by India to extend help in rescue and relief materials to Turkey and Syria devastated by a severe earthquake amidst freezing temperatures intensified with six planeloads of relief supplies being flown from India and the Indian Army starting its field hospital in one of the worst affected areas.

The Indian Army’s field hospital in Iskenderun, Hatay, Türkiye has started functioning by running Medical, Surgical and Emergency Wards; X-Ray Lab & Medical Store.

Sharing the images of the hospital on Twitter, External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar said the team will work 24x7 to provide relief to the affected people.

 This is a 30-bedded hospital with all modern treatment facilities.

India has sent rescue teams, sniffer dogs, and relief materials and medicines for the victims of a terrible earthquake in Turkey and neighbouring Syria.

A video of NDRF personnel rescuing a six-year-old child from under the debris of a collapsed house in Nurdagi, Gaziantep was shared by Home Minister Amit Shah on Twuitter on Thursday.

 The Turkish embassy in India has requested people for donating materials for the victims and issued a list of items the country needs.

Minister of state for external affairs S Murleedharan visited Hindon Airbase early morning to see off the sixth Indian Air Force sorties carrying personnel and medicines for Turkey and Syria under operation Dost.

He and the Turkish ambassador Firat Sunel interacted with the personnel of the National Disaster Rescue Force team boarding for Turkey to augment the ongoing search and rescue efforts.

India has deployed two Turkish-speaking officers, and four MEA officers to assist India’s ongoing humanitarian mission in the quake-hit Turkey.
