The father-son duo accused of carrying out the deadly shooting at Australia’s Bondi Beach last week spent most of November in the Philippines before returning to Sydney, Philippine immigration authorities said on Tuesday.
According to the Philippines News Agency, Sajid Akram (50) and his son Naveed Akram (24) arrived in the country from Sydney on November 1 and departed on November 28, with Davao listed as their final destination during the stay.
“Both reported Davao as their final destination. They left the country on November 28 via Manila, with Sydney as their final destination,” a spokesperson for the Bureau of Immigration said.
The spokesperson added that Naveed Akram is an Indian-Australian citizen, while Sajid Akram entered the Philippines on an Indian passport.
Australian police have identified the suspects in Sunday’s Bondi Beach attack as a father and son, in which at least 15 people were killed and dozens injured. Investigators have said they are not looking for additional suspects.
Meanwhile, Telangana Police said Sajid Akram was originally from Hyderabad and migrated to Australia in 1998 after completing his Bachelor of Commerce degree. He later settled permanently in Australia. Police said there is no adverse record against him during his stay in India, and the radicalisation of the duo appears to have no links to India.
