With the fall of capital Kabul, the Taliban have taken control of Afghanistan.

President Ashraf Ghani resigned and left along his family and members of his core team for a central Asian country – probably Takjistan – and the Taliban fighters entered Kabul despite announcing they will wait till transition of power was over.

The announcement about Ghani’s transfer was done by Abdullah Abdullah, who was negotiating with the Taliban in Doha, on social media. He said God will hold Ghani responsible for what he did, alluding the President not quitting earlier.

In the meanwhile the Taliban’s spokesperson Suhail Shaheen  told the BBC that the process of handing over the power to Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is in the process. He said the Taliban will be an Islamic government of Emirate of Afghanistan.

Suhail, who is Taliban’s most known face to the international media, claimed the Taliban will not take revenge; nor were they interested in (looting) the property of the people. He also assured the foreign embassies that they will be safe in Kabul.

He also took to the Twitter to adress the fears of Kabul residents:

However, given the history of the group, the violence it unleashed in the countryside while advancing to Kabul and also not respecting the Doha agreement for sharing power in Afghanistan, a few would trust Suhail Shaheen.

Former President Hamid Karzai posted a picture of him with his triplet daughters and announced “we are in Kabul” and said it’s the responsibility of the Taliban to protect all citizens.

Country’s vice president one of the most vocal critics of the Taliban Amarullah Saleh said Reports coming in from Kabul say that President Ashraf Ghani has left for Tajikistan with his family; some others in his government are on their ways to India and other countries.

Vice President Amrullah Saleh who has renewed his pledge not to bow to the terrorist Taliban has also left for some undisclosed destination.

There is panic in Kabul as people are telling the world media through internet that they are scared and are lodged inside their homes even though there is no fighting in the city. Foreigners are rushing to the Hamid Karzai International airport to leave the country in anticipation of the violence and mayhem that had accompanied the rule of Taliban in its earlier avatar in 2001.

All offices, shops and banks closed with the reports about the Taliban reaching the outskirts of Kabul early morning.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told TOLO News that in order to prevent looting and chaos their forces will enter some parts of Kabul and occupy outposts that have been evacuated by security forces. He asks the people to not panic from their entrance into the city.

It seems 129 Indians arrived in Delhi from Kabul late evening. The British, American and other countries are also evacuating their embassy staff and citizens.

Pakistan has rushed its commercial planes to Kabul for evacuating foreigners who want to leve Afghanistan. Pakistan newspapers also claimed a delegation of Taliban has arrived in Islamabad “to hold talks on mutual interests.”

Russia that is retaining its embassy staff following assurances by the Taliban has asked for an emergency session of the United Nations security Council on Afghanistan.
