Adam of Anantnag qualifies UPSC 2020

An Engineering graduate from Anantnag, South Kashmir, Adam Mohiuddin Ganai, has cleared the UPSC examination 2020. His selection came as the UPSC released the reserved list of 75 candidates on Saturday. Though happy at qualifying the prestigious all India-level civil services examination, Adam, however, says he would make yet another attempt to improve his ranking, and he has already started preparations for it.
 
“This was my fourth attempt in the civil services examination,” Adam told Awaz-the Voice “It was only in 2020 that I qualified; in the previous year I had reached upto the Interview level.” The reserved list is usually released after the main list, depending upon the job requirements. The result of UPSC civil services examinations was released in September .
 
Adam Mohiudin Ganai's family has many civil servants. His father Ghulam Mohiuddin Ganai has retired from the Indian Revenue Services and has worked for the customs and central excise.
 
He says Khwaja Saifuddin Ganai is the first IPS from his family. His father's uncle Shamusuddin Ganai retired as Additional Chief Sectrary, IAS, in J&K. Khurshid Ganai, a second topper of the 1982 UPSC Civil Services is his uncle and so is Mohammad Iqbal Ganai, who retired as Secretary J&K Legislative Assembly, is his uncle. 
 
Khursheed Ganai rose to become the advisor to Governor N N Vohra.
 
While he was preparing for the civil services, he also appeared for IFS (Indian Forest Services) examination in 2020 and reached upto the  interview level.
 
He has a B Tech degree in Electrical Engineering from NIT Srinagar.  Adam also got placement in Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCI), but again, did not join in pursuit of his IAS ambition.
 
“My father motivated me to choose the line” and thus qualified for civil services, he said and added that it was his family’s support at all levels to achieve higher goals in life. His father, Ghulam Mohiuddin, a retired IRS officer, said that the credit of Adam’s success goes to his “hard work and consistency”. He said that Adam cleared both the Prelims and finals for two successive years in 2019 and 2020. 
 
Born in 1992 in the Mattan area of the Anantnag district, Adam had his early education in Anantnag. He later shifted to Delhi Public School (DPS), Srinagar in the fifth standard in 2003. After completing 10+two, he joined the NIT (National Institute of Technology), Srinagar for graduating in Electrical Engineering.
