A 17-year-old girl imparted a lesson in grit and perseverance by appearing for her HSC Maths exam in Latur district some hours after performing her father's last rites.

Shivani Devkatte, a student of Sambhaji Kendre College, lost her father Madhav, a driver working in Pune, to a heart attack on Friday evening. His funeral was held in their native Gudgal village in Ahmedpur tehsil on Saturday morning, an official said.

"Shivani chose to honour her father by appearing for her Maths exam on Saturday. Just one-and-half-hours after her father's funeral, she travelled 50 kilometres to her exam centre in Shri Gurudatt Junior College for her exam that started at 11am," Sambhaji Kendre College principal BT Lahane said.
