Veteran actor Anupam Kher has released a video titled "I Am an Indian", in which he addresses what he describes as widespread stereotypes about Indians while highlighting the country's achievements and contributions across the globe.
In the video, Kher responds to various perceptions regarding Indians, touching upon issues such as civic behaviour, employment, culture and public celebrations. Through a series of observations, he contrasts these criticisms with India's global influence and accomplishments.
Referring to allegations that Indians lack civic sense, Kher argues that similar incidents in other countries are often overlooked. He suggests that celebrations by Indians are frequently judged more harshly than comparable behaviour elsewhere.

The actor also comments on debates surrounding employment and immigration, stating that many Indians who move abroad do so through education, skill and hard work. He emphasises the efforts made by professionals who secure opportunities overseas and contribute to their adopted countries.
Kher further highlights the presence of Indians in fields such as technology, healthcare, education, research and business, questioning why their growing visibility on the global stage is sometimes viewed negatively.
The video has drawn attention on social media for its message of national pride and its defence of the Indian diaspora.
On the professional front, Kher is currently occupied with performances of his latest stage production, Jaane Pehchaane Anjaane, which also stars Swaroop Sampat. The play has been written and directed by Gajendra Ahire.
