Hollywood veteran Rob Reiner, the acclaimed actor and filmmaker, and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead at their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on Sunday afternoon in what authorities are treating as an apparent homicide. Reiner was 78 years old, and his wife was 68.
Emergency responders discovered the couple’s bodies at around 3:30 p.m. Sunday inside their residence. Police and investigators from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division are leading the ongoing probe, which has not yet identified a suspect.
The Reiners’ family released a statement describing their deaths as “tragic” and expressed deep sorrow over the sudden loss, while asking for privacy during this difficult time.
Rob Reiner rose to fame in the early 1970s with his Emmy-winning portrayal of Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the groundbreaking sitcom All in the Family. He later became one of Hollywood’s most respected directors, helming a string of beloved films, including This Is Spinal Tap (1984), Stand By Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally… (1989), Misery (1990) and A Few Good Men (1992).
In addition to his work in entertainment, Reiner was known as a political activist, frequently advocating for progressive causes throughout his career.
The couple’s deaths have sent shockwaves through the film and television community, with tributes already beginning to emerge for the legendary filmmaker and cultural figure.
