The fifth season of the acclaimed family drama Gullak is set to premiere on June 5 on Sony LIV, the streaming platform announced on Wednesday.

Created by Shreyansh Pandey and produced by TVF, the series has become one of India’s most loved slice-of-life dramas since its debut in 2019.

The show revolves around the everyday experiences of the Mishra family — father Santosh, mother Shanti, and sons Annu and Aman — capturing the humour, struggles and emotional nuances of middle-class life. Narrated through the perspective of the family’s old piggy bank, the series has earned praise for its relatable storytelling and emotional warmth.

Season five will see the return of key cast members, including Jameel Khan as Santosh Mishra, Geetanjali Kulkarni as Shanti Mishra, Harsh Mayar as Aman, and Sunita Rajwar as the Mishras’ neighbour. Anant Joshi will continue portraying the character of Annu.

According to the makers, the new season explores evolving ambitions, insecurities and changing family dynamics while retaining the emotional simplicity that defines the show.

The storyline will follow Annu as he struggles with expectations and self-doubt, while Aman returns more reserved, carrying personal secrets of his own. Meanwhile, Shanti Mishra unexpectedly gains attention through the online popularity of “Bittu Ki Mummy” in a world increasingly driven by digital visibility.

The season’s central theme revolves around change and identity, questioning whether one can truly outgrow their roots despite life’s transformations.

TVF president Vijay Koshy said the show has deepened its connection with viewers over the years.

“Season five reflects the evolving realities of middle-class India while preserving the warmth and simplicity audiences love. It is about growth, transition and staying emotionally connected to one’s roots,” he said.

Speaking about the upcoming season, Kulkarni said her character Shanti Mishra remains the emotional centre of the family, though viewers will witness a new dimension to her personality this time.
