Actor-comedian Vir Das is stepping behind the camera for the first time with the spy comedy “Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos”, which was officially announced on Wednesday by Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan.

The film features Das in the lead role alongside actor Mona Singh and is slated for a theatrical release on January 16, 2026.

Aamir Khan Productions launched the project with a playful announcement video starring Khan himself. In the promo, Khan humorously interrogates Das about his unusual interpretation of action, romance and even an item number, while contrasting audience reactions in the background build hype around the film.

Sharing the clip online, the production house wrote: “From ‘Kya BANAYA’ to ‘KYA BANAYA’. Get ready for a wild ride of comedy, action, romance, and some spy stuff as well. Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, in theatres only from January 16, 2026.”

Das, who has built a global reputation as a stand-up comic and has appeared in notable titles including Go Goa Gone, Badmaash Company and Delhi Belly, reunites with Aamir Khan Productions after their collaboration on the 2011 cult favourite Delhi Belly.
