Sonakshi Sinha believes creative professionals today are navigating increasingly challenging times, saying it has become difficult to express the “whole and entire truth” through cinema.

In an interview with PTI, the actor said filmmakers and artists have become more cautious about the subjects they choose to explore and the messages they wish to communicate.

“It’s difficult to speak the whole and entire truth. If you speak the truth too much, the film also stops in today’s time,” Sinha said, adding that creative freedom is no longer what it once was.

Reflecting on her journey since making her debut opposite Salman Khan in the 2010 film Dabangg, Sinha said the industry has changed significantly over the past fifteen years, particularly with the rise of social media.

She said the environment was comparatively easier when she entered the industry, but increasing exposure and public scrutiny have made things tougher for actors today.

Over the years, Sinha has earned acclaim for performances in films such as Lootera, Akira and Mission Mangal, as well as streaming projects like Dahaad and Heeramandi.

Speaking candidly about her career, Sinha admitted some projects had left her with regrets, but said she has never disowned any of her films.

“Everybody makes mistakes in life. We are also the same. You just have to move on,” she said.

Sinha is currently awaiting the release of System, a courtroom drama directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and co-starring Jyothika and Ashutosh Gowariker.

In the film, she plays lawyer Neha Rajvansh, a determined young advocate who gradually begins questioning the idea of winning cases at any cost.

Sinha described the role as “very real” and “very flawed,” adding that portraying a lawyer and performing courtroom scenes offered a fresh and exciting challenge.

She also praised Gowariker—known for directing acclaimed films such as Lagaan, Swades and Jodhaa Akbar—for his performance in the film.

Sinha revealed she is currently shooting for the second season of Dahaad.
