Samsung's next-generation foldable smartphones are once again making headlines ahead of their anticipated debut at the company's Galaxy Unpacked event next month. Fresh leaks suggest the South Korean tech giant could introduce notable camera improvements to the premium Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, while the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to stick with its existing camera hardware.
According to a report by South Korea's Sisa Journal, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will continue with a triple rear camera setup but could receive a major upgrade to its ultrawide sensor. The foldable is tipped to feature a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera, replacing the 12-megapixel unit seen on the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The upgraded sensor is also rumoured to be similar to the one expected on the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
The report further claims that Samsung will retain its flagship 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP2 primary camera on the Fold 8 Ultra, accompanied by a 10-megapixel telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom.
In contrast, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 may not receive any camera enhancements. The clamshell foldable is reportedly set to continue with a 50-megapixel main sensor and a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, mirroring the setup found on its predecessor.
Meanwhile, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to feature a dual rear camera system comprising a 50-megapixel primary sensor and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. Reports also indicate that both the cover display and the foldable inner screen could house separate 10-megapixel selfie cameras for photography and video calls.
Beyond the hardware, Samsung is also believed to be strengthening its camera component supply chain ahead of the launch. The company is reportedly sourcing camera modules from Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Power Logics and China's Sunny Optical, while camera lenses may come from Coasia CM. Samsung's subsidiary, Coasia CM Korea, is also expected to play a role in module production.
Industry reports suggest Samsung has already entered mass production after finalising its camera module supply chain, signalling that preparations for the upcoming foldable lineup are well underway.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8, is widely expected to be unveiled at Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event, rumoured to take place on July 22 in London. Previous leaks have also suggested that the foldables could be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 featuring a 7.6-inch foldable display sporting a 4:3 aspect ratio.
