Indus Appstore, the homegrown Android marketplace developed by PhonePe, announced on Saturday that it has entered into a partnership with Motorola India, allowing the app store to come preloaded on Motorola smartphones across the country. The collaboration is expected to expand Indus Appstore’s reach and provide Motorola users with a more personalised app discovery experience.
According to the company, Indus Appstore has been built to offer Indian users an alternative within the app ecosystem, keeping in mind cultural and regional diversity. The platform supports 12 Indian languages along with English and features AI-powered voice search that helps users explore apps without typing in complex vernacular words. It also enables video previews so that users can understand an app’s functionality before installation.
The platform aims to create a more supportive space for developers in the country by promoting fair app store policies and reducing dependency on a single distribution channel. The company noted that this approach will help more homegrown developers scale and strengthen the Indian app economy.
Priya M Narasimhan, Chief Business Officer of Indus Appstore, called the partnership a major milestone and said, “We are delighted to collaborate with Motorola to offer seamless access to Indus Appstore for a wider segment of Indian users. The platform truly represents the Made-for-India spirit and is now positioned to play a transformative role in reshaping the app economy.”
T M Narasimhan, Managing Director of Motorola Mobility India, stated that the association aligns with Motorola’s commitment to building an experience suited for Indian consumers. He added that integrating Indus Appstore would provide an innovative and culturally relevant app discovery method while also supporting Indian developers through its unique distribution approach.
