Think tanks convene discussion in US ahead of February's AI Summit in India

The Observer Research Foundation, in collaboration with the Indian Embassy in the United States, the Senate AI Caucus and the Special Competitive Studies Project, convened a panel discussion on India–US cooperation in technology, with a focus on artificial intelligence.

The discussion, held on Friday (local time), took place ahead of the AI Impact Summit scheduled to be hosted by India in February. During the event, Deputy Chief of Mission Ambassador Namgya Khampa outlined India’s priorities and vision for the upcoming summit, highlighting technology and innovation as a central pillar of the India–US strategic partnership.

In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in the US said the panel was organised at the US Congress to underscore growing collaboration between the two countries in the technology sector.

“Ahead of the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi (February 2026), the Embassy together with ORF America, the Senate AI Caucus, and the Special Competitive Studies Project convened a panel discussion at the US Congress. Deputy Chief of Mission Ambassador Namgya Khampa outlined India’s priorities and vision for the Summit, underscoring India–USA collaboration in technology and innovation as a key pillar of the bilateral partnership,” the post read.

Earlier this week, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that India will host the prestigious AI Impact Summit next month under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The announcement was made during his visit to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras for Pongal celebrations.

Speaking to reporters, Pradhan said countries across the world are rapidly integrating artificial intelligence into sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture and manufacturing.

He said the government has established a Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence for Education at IIT Madras and that his visit was aimed at reviewing its progress ahead of the summit.

“Our education ecosystem—whether at the central or state level or across institutions—is preparing itself to adopt AI in curriculum, pedagogy and administration,” Pradhan said.
