RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday voiced worry over the diminishing use of Indian languages, saying the situation has reached a stage where “some Bharatiya people do not know our own languages.”

Speaking at a book launch in Nagpur, he said many children increasingly use mixed language at home and even simple words in their mother tongue are fading. He stressed that English-medium education is not the problem, but families avoiding Indian languages at home is.

Bhagwat said Sanskrit once dominated everyday communication, but today Indians depend on foreign scholars to learn it. Citing examples like ‘Kalpavruksha’, he said Indian concepts lose depth when translated into English, highlighting the need to preserve linguistic heritage.

He also referred to Sant Dnyaneshwar’s work in making spiritual knowledge accessible in Marathi and said Indian traditions emphasise unity, collective welfare, and a balance of knowledge, action, and faith.
