Amit Shah, PM Modi condole Lucknow coaching centre fire tragedy

Condolences poured in from political leaders across party lines following the devastating fire at a coaching centre in Lucknow that claimed 15 lives and left several others injured.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah described the incident as deeply distressing and conveyed his sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives. In a post on X, he prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and hoped that the bereaved families would find strength to cope with their loss.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also expressed grief over the tragedy, noting that several students were among the victims. Extending her condolences to the affected families, she urged the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure adequate medical care for the injured and provide compensation to those impacted. She also appealed to Congress workers to extend all possible assistance to the victims and their families.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal termed the incident heartbreaking and conveyed his sympathies to the families of the deceased. He prayed for peace for the departed souls and strength for their loved ones during this difficult time.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh, while expressing sorrow over the deaths, criticised the government over recurring fire incidents. He alleged that such tragedies continue to occur due to administrative failures and called for a thorough investigation into the Lucknow fire. Singh demanded stringent action against those found responsible and urged authorities to ensure accountability.

Meanwhile, officials at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) confirmed that the death toll had risen to 15. According to Medical Superintendent Prem Raj Singh, most of the victims succumbed to suffocation. He said that several injured persons were also brought to the hospital, including individuals suffering from spinal and leg injuries, who are currently undergoing treatment.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow over the incident and announced financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. The families of those who lost their lives will receive Rs 2 lakh each, while the injured will be provided Rs 50,000.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the site of the incident and directed senior officials to conduct a detailed inquiry. He instructed the police and home department authorities to submit a comprehensive report and assured that strict action would be taken against those found guilty.

The Chief Minister also announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the families of each deceased victim and Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured in the fire.
