Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday appealed to the government to ramp up rescue and relief operations in the flood-affected districts of the northeastern state.

Gogoi also visited flood-hit areas in his Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency and distributed relief materials among the affected.

"The flood situation across Assam, including several parts of Jorhat, remains deeply concerning. Families have been displaced, homes and livelihoods have been affected, and precious lives have been lost," he said in a post on X.

The flood has impacted nearly 5.65 lakh people in 12 districts, and 31 people have died in the deluge so far.

The Deputy Leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha said he has visited flood-affected areas across the constituency to meet residents, understand their immediate needs and assess the situation on the ground.

"I also interacted with officials and local volunteers engaged in the relief efforts. At this difficult time, ensuring timely relief, safe shelter, healthcare, and rehabilitation for every affected family must remain the highest priority.

"I urge the government to strengthen relief operations, provide adequate compensation to the families who have lost their loved ones, and expedite measures to restore normalcy," he said.

The senior Congress leader said the party will continue to monitor the situation closely, and raise every concern at the appropriate forums.
