Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad on Wednesday launched coordinated raids at more than 40 locations across Maharashtra as part of an operation targeting individuals allegedly linked to a Pakistan-based criminal network.

According to officials, at least 40 persons were being questioned following the statewide crackdown, which began in the early hours of the day.

The action was initiated after the ATS received specific intelligence inputs regarding suspicious activities of individuals allegedly in contact with Shahzad Bhatti and members of his syndicate.

Investigators suspect Bhatti, who is believed to be operating from abroad, was attempting to influence and recruit young people in India for unlawful activities through his network.

Search operations were carried out across multiple cities and towns, including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Akola, Nanded, Jalgaon, as well as Mira Road and Nallasopara, among other locations in the state.
