West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday held his weekly Janata Darbar at the BJP office, listening to grievances from citizens and directing officials to ensure their prompt resolution.

The public outreach programme, first launched on May 18 shortly after Adhikari assumed office, allows people to meet the chief minister directly and present their concerns every week.

Families seeking medical assistance, health workers, unemployed youth and other citizens attended the session in large numbers on Saturday.

Among them was Karuna, who appealed for financial help for her daughter's medical treatment.

Another attendee, Tanima Chatterjee, a programme officer associated with the government's Mission Vatsalya initiative, sought job security for contractual employees working under the scheme.

"We promote family-based, non-institutional care for children in difficult circumstances. There are 876 staffers in the state, yet we lack job security. We receive only a consolidated payment for our services," Chatterjee said.

She alleged that the previous administration had failed to address their concerns and expressed hope that the BJP government would regularise their services.

Several other visitors complained about alleged inaction by police and administrative authorities, claiming that the previous government had attempted to suppress murder cases and other crimes.

The weekly Janata Darbar is increasingly being projected as one of the BJP government's key public-facing governance initiatives in West Bengal. Similar grievance redressal programmes have been implemented in other BJP-ruled states and are presented by the party as mechanisms to improve accessibility and ensure quicker resolution of public complaints.
