Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Friday launched the self-enumeration phase of Census 2027 from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Patna, officials said.

Launching the process digitally with the click of a mouse, Choudhary urged residents of the state to participate actively and enthusiastically in the nationwide exercise.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, he said that for the first time citizens would have access to a fully digital census process along with a self-enumeration option. This phase will run from April 17 to May 1.

It will be followed by the house listing and housing census, scheduled from May 2 to May 31.

The Chief Minister said people could contribute either by completing self-enumeration themselves or by cooperating with census officials, adding that accurate and inclusive data would help shape the future development of Bihar and the country.

Senior officials present at the launch included Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar and secretaries Anupam Kumar and Kumar Ravi.

Former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also completed his own self-enumeration registration and shared the update on X.

Earlier in the day, Choudhary flagged off a “fun run” event at Railway Bridge (Ganga Ghat), promoting women’s honour, safety and participation. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was working to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, while Nitish Kumar had worked to expand women’s rights in Bihar.
