On the occasion of the 78th Army Day, the British High Commission on Thursday extended greetings to the Indian Army and highlighted the close cooperation between the two forces, underscoring the strengthening India-UK strategic partnership.
“Greetings and best wishes to all ranks of @adgpi on Army Day. From peacekeeping operations to joint training and education, our two armies work closely together—deepening defence cooperation and strengthening the UK-India strategic partnership,” said Defence Advisor Commodore Chris Saunder of the British High Commission in a post on X.
Earlier in the day, Israel’s Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, also praised the bravery of the Indian Army and reaffirmed defence cooperation between India and Israel.
“On Indian Army Day, I salute the brave soldiers of the Indian Army. India and Israel's armed forces will continue working together to develop the capabilities to confront security threats. Our cooperation is built on trust, courage, and a shared commitment to safety and stability,” Azar said in a post on X, highlighting collaboration in counter-terrorism, technology and innovation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi also conveyed warm wishes to serving personnel, veterans and their families.
“On Army Day, we salute the courage and resolute commitment of the Indian Army. Our soldiers stand as a symbol of selfless service, safeguarding the nation with steadfast resolve, often under the most challenging conditions. Their sense of duty inspires confidence and gratitude across the country,” Prime Minister Modi said in a post on X.
The 78th Army Day celebrations were held in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and were attended by CDS General Anil Chauhan, COAS General Upendra Dwivedi and several other dignitaries. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Governor Haribhau Bagde, and BJP Rajasthan President Madan Rathore were also present.

Army Day is observed annually on January 15 to commemorate the historic occasion in 1949 when Field Marshal K M Cariappa took over as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from British General Sir Francis Robert Roy Bucher, marking a significant milestone in independent India’s military history.
