Bus driver killed, 18 passengers injured in collision with truck in MP's Shajapur

A private bus driver lost his life while at least 18 passengers sustained injuries after the bus crashed into a truck from behind in Madhya Pradesh's Shajapur district in the early hours of Saturday, police said.

The accident took place at around 2 am near a roadside eatery on National Highway-52 under the jurisdiction of the Sunera police station, approximately 15 kilometres from the district headquarters.

According to police, the bus was travelling from Indore in Madhya Pradesh to Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh when it collided with a truck moving ahead of it.

Sunera police station house officer Ankit Mukati said the driver of the bus, identified as 40-year-old Manohar Singh from Ashok Nagar district, died at the scene of the accident.

A total of 18 passengers were injured in the crash, including two pregnant women, he said.

Soon after receiving information about the incident, police personnel reached the spot and launched rescue operations. The injured passengers were shifted to the district hospital in Shajapur, where they are undergoing treatment.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the accident.
