The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Kerala on Thursday passed a resolution authorising the party high command to take the final call on the next chief minister, with three senior leaders currently in the race for the top post, party sources said.

The resolution was proposed by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Sunny Joseph during the CLP meeting held at Indira Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram in the presence of AICC observers Mukul Wasnik and Ajay Maken.

Senior leaders V. D. Satheesan, Ramesh Chennithala and K. C. Venugopal are being considered for the chief minister’s post.

Sources said the resolution received unanimous backing from newly elected MLAs and senior party leaders.

The Congress, which secured 63 seats in the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections, convened the crucial meeting amid heightened speculation over its leadership choice.

Following the resolution, the AICC observers began one-on-one consultations with MLAs to gather their views on the leadership issue.

Earlier in the day, Wasnik and Maken also held discussions with senior leaders including V. M. Sudheeran, K. Sudhakaran, Chennithala and Satheesan.

The observers are expected to submit their report to the Congress high command, which will make the final decision on who will lead the next government in Kerala. They are also scheduled to meet leaders of United Democratic Front allies before concluding the consultation process.
