Gandhinagar
A high-level delegation from Commonwealth Sport visited Gujarat on Wednesday to review preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, marking their first official engagement since Ahmedabad was confirmed as the host of the centenary edition.
The delegation began its tour with a meeting with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar. During the visit, officials are scheduled to inspect proposed venues and hold discussions with senior government representatives regarding infrastructure and planning.
Patel reiterated the state’s commitment to delivering a successful event, saying the preparations would follow a “time-bound, qualitative, and effective planning” approach inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Donald Rukare, who is leading the delegation, also invited the Gujarat chief minister to attend the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2026, scheduled to begin on July 23 in Glasgow.
The 2030 edition will mark 100 years since the inaugural Commonwealth Games 1930 held in Hamilton. The last Games, held in Commonwealth Games 2022, saw Australia top the medal tally, followed by England, Canada, India and New Zealand.
