Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said the government remains committed to advancing economic reforms to maintain India's growth momentum despite an uncertain global environment, following the release of strong GDP figures for the financial year 2025-26.

Reacting to the latest growth data, Sitharaman said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, would continue pursuing decisive policy initiatives to keep the economy on a positive trajectory amid international economic challenges.

India's economy expanded by an estimated 7.7 per cent in real terms during FY 2025-26, according to provisional estimates released on Friday. The country's real Gross Value Added (GVA) also registered a robust growth of 7.9 per cent during the same period.

Highlighting the performance, the Finance Minister noted that both GDP and GVA recorded strong growth in the January-March quarter as well, with real GDP estimated at 7.8 per cent and real GVA at 7.9 per cent.

She emphasised that the growth was broad-based, with several sectors posting double-digit expansion at both constant and current prices during the fiscal year. These included manufacturing, trade, repair services, hotels, transport, communication and broadcasting-related services, storage, as well as financial, real estate and professional services.

Sitharaman's remarks come against the backdrop of continuing global headwinds, including geopolitical tensions, trade disruptions and uneven economic recovery across major economies.
