The Congress on Tuesday criticised the Centre for not sharing its proposed legislative agenda ahead of the Budget session of Parliament, accusing the government of a lack of transparency.

Speaking to reporters after the all-party meeting convened ahead of the session, Congress leader K Suresh said opposition parties raised concerns over the absence of any document detailing the Bills the government intends to introduce during the session.

He said Union ministers present at the meeting informed leaders that the legislative agenda would be circulated at a later stage, a response the Congress found unsatisfactory.

According to Suresh, the government told the meeting that the first phase of the Budget session would primarily focus on the discussion and passage of the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address, along with deliberations on the Union Budget.

The Budget session is scheduled to begin on Wednesday with President Droupadi Murmu’s address to a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The Union Budget will be presented on February 1.

The first part of the session will run until February 13, during which the Motion of Thanks will be taken up for debate. Discussions on the Budget are also slated during this phase.

After a recess, Parliament will reconvene on March 9, with the session set to conclude on April 2.
