Food safety officials have raided a dairy unit in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and seized dairy products and edible oil worth Rs 3.12 lakh, officials have said.

During the raid, the officials found 10 to 12 barrels of soybean oil stored in containers, marked as “non-food” grade, on the premises, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said in a release on Thursday.

Citing preliminary findings, they said that soybean oil was allegedly being used to make analogue paneer and substandard cow ghee, the officials said. Analogue paneer is a non-dairy substitute made using vegetable oils, starches, emulsifiers and other additives instead of milk fat.

The team seized the stock of soybean oil along with suspected adulterated cow ghee, cream used to produce ghee and paneer from the premises.

The total value of the seized products and edible oil is estimated at Rs 3.12 lakh, it said.
