The Delhi Assembly on Monday passed a resolution congratulating Narendra Modi for becoming the longest-serving head of a government in the country.

The milestone was achieved after Modi completed 8,931 days in public office, spanning his tenure as Gujarat chief minister and now as Prime Minister. On Sunday, he surpassed the previous record held by Pawan Kumar Chamling.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta noted that Modi’s long tenure reflects his sustained public service, beginning with his leadership in Gujarat and continuing at the national level.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta praised the Prime Minister’s commitment, describing his life as dedicated to the nation’s development and service. She said his governance and foreign policy initiatives have elevated India’s global standing, adding that he has worked tirelessly for the country.

The motion to congratulate the Prime Minister was introduced by Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood and was subsequently adopted by the House. While presenting the motion, Sood said Modi has treated political power as a means to serve the people and has inspired governance at various levels.

Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh also lauded Modi’s development-focused approach, stating that his policies have benefited all sections of society rather than being limited to select regions.

Modi first assumed office as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001, and held the position until May 26, 2014. He then took oath as Prime Minister after leading the BJP to a majority victory in the general elections, marking a significant political shift at the national level.
