People cutting across religious barriers celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights at Lal Chowk in Srinagar. The place is significant since it was once scene of many attacks on security forces by pro-Pakistan militants and unfurling of Pakistani flags.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also extended Diwali greetings to people on the occasion and wished prosperity for all.
