Senior DMK leader and Lok Sabha MP Dayanidhi Maran on Thursday voiced confidence that the ruling party would secure a second consecutive term in Tamil Nadu.

After casting his vote at a polling station in Chennai, the former Union minister said the people of the state wanted the DMK government to continue. “It is not just my belief, the people of Tamil Nadu want the DMK to return,” he said.

Polling for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections began at 7 am across the state.

The main contest is between the ruling DMK and the principal opposition AIADMK, while actor-politician Vijay’s TVK and Tamil nationalist Seeman’s NTK are also in the fray.

Maran said the state would continue to witness good governance under the DMK. Describing the election battle in sharp terms, he called it a “fight between Tamil Nadu and evil Delhi.”
