Amazon on Monday said its cloud computing arm, Amazon Web Services, faced disruption in its Bahrain region due to drone activity linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict, marking the second such incident in recent weeks.

In a statement, the company said the outage occurred amid nearby drone operations, though it did not confirm whether its Bahrain data centre was directly struck or impacted indirectly by surrounding military activity. Amazon advised customers with workloads in the affected region to shift operations to other AWS locations as a precaution.

The company added that it is helping clients migrate their systems to alternate regions while restoration efforts are underway. However, it has not disclosed the scale of the disruption or provided a timeline for full recovery.

AWS, a major global provider of cloud infrastructure, supports a wide range of businesses, government services and digital platforms, and remains Amazon’s primary source of profit.

This is the second disruption to AWS infrastructure in the region since tensions escalated in West Asia. Earlier in the month, facilities in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates were affected by power outages linked to military activity. That incident was notable as one of the first known cases where conflict-related strikes disrupted operations at a major US tech company’s data centre.

Amazon had earlier indicated that those strikes caused structural damage, interrupted power supply and led to additional complications, including water damage from fire suppression measures.
