A photo exhibition highlighting alleged restrictions on media freedom in Pakistan was held on the sidelines of the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council near the iconic Broken Chair Monument, drawing attention from the international community.

Organised by the ECO-FAWN Society, the display featured posters carrying messages such as “Journalists under attack in Pakistan” and “Press freedom under threat in Pakistan,” aiming to engage diplomats, activists and observers gathered in Geneva for the ongoing human rights discussions.

The exhibition showcased profiles of several journalists, detailing allegations of harassment, detention and intimidation, along with growing restrictions on reporting. According to organisers, these developments have created an increasingly difficult and unsafe environment for media professionals, raising concerns about democratic freedoms.

Through the initiative, the group urged the global community to take note of the situation and push for stronger safeguards for journalists. They stressed that a free press is essential for transparency and accountability in any democracy and warned that continued curbs could have wider implications.

The choice of venue, just outside the United Nations office, was intended to bring the issue directly to the global stage and attract the attention of policymakers and human rights bodies. The exhibition reflects rising concern among activists over the state of press freedom in Pakistan.
