Delhi University has suspended three students from their respective courses with immediate effect in connection with an alleged harassment incident involving a Hindu College postgraduate student in northwest Delhi, a university official said on Monday.

The students, all pursuing LLB at Law Centre-II, were suspended following allegations that a group of men in a car followed a Hindu College student and her friend in the Mukherjee Nagar area and allegedly attempted to pull them into the vehicle.

The action was taken based on an FIR registered by the Delhi Police in connection with the incident that occurred around 9:30 pm on September 23, the official said.

"On the basis of the FIR lodged by the Delhi Police regarding the incident that occurred in the evening of 23rd September 2026, it is hereby notified that three students have been suspended from their course of studies with immediate effect," the official said.

According to the notice issued on Monday by the Proctor, the action was taken in accordance with Clause 3(e) of Ordinance XV-B of the Delhi University Act, 1922.

The first-year master's student had alleged that she and her friend were walking when a white car approached them and the men inside allegedly passed comments at them. When the women objected, the men allegedly abused them and followed them, she had said in a video posted on social media.

She further alleged that when they stopped to record the incident, the men also stopped and attempted to pull them into the car. They fled after her friend began recording the vehicle, she had claimed.

According to the police, the accused car involved in the incident was traced, and its driver was identified as a Delhi University student. Two to three other persons were allegedly accompanying him at the time.

The notice, issued separately to the three students, also mentioned that their entry into the University of Delhi's premises is banned with immediate effect under the ordinance and the same has been approved by the varsity's competent authority.

The university's disciplinary action comes amid heightened concerns over the safety of students, particularly women, on and around Delhi University campuses.
