Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday welcomed the Centre’s decision to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel, calling it a “historic” and “pro-people” measure that will ease the financial burden on citizens.
He said the move reflects the government’s commitment to protecting people from rising global fuel costs, especially at a time of international uncertainty.
The Central government has reduced the special additional excise duty on petrol from ₹13 per litre to ₹3, while the same levy on diesel has been brought down to zero. The step is aimed at cushioning domestic consumers from the impact of surging crude oil prices amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
In addition, duties on the export of diesel and aviation turbine fuel have been reintroduced to ensure adequate availability in the domestic market.
The excise duty cut comes as oil companies face mounting losses due to a sharp rise in global crude prices, which have increased significantly following the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Praising Narendra Modi, Sai said the decision demonstrates foresight and sensitivity towards the needs of the people.
He added that the move would benefit all sections of society, including farmers, labourers, middle-class families, and businesses, by helping stabilise fuel costs and easing inflationary pressures.
