NCP-SCP MP Fauzia Khan on Thursday told the Rajya Sabha that 766 farmers have died by suicide in Maharashtra over the past three months, questioning when farmers will “become dear to the government.”

Khan highlighted discrepancies in official data on flood-affected areas and said only 676 families received government aid while 200 were denied. She criticized gaps in the relief package and crop insurance coverage, calling the situation a “massive agricultural disaster” rather than a routine seasonal setback.

Citing Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s response in the Lok Sabha, Khan noted that Maharashtra had not submitted proposals for additional aid, leaving many farmers without adequate support.
