Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin on Saturday highlighted the crucial role of farmers in the country's development, stating that their contribution is central to India's growth and prosperity.

Speaking at an Intellectuals Meet in Ranchi, Nabin said the welfare of farmers is directly linked to economic well-being and social harmony. He stressed that the government is committed to ensuring that farmers become active partners in development rather than remaining mere beneficiaries of welfare schemes.

"The greatest contribution to the nation and its advancement comes from our farmers. A prosperous farmer brings prosperity and stability to society. Our government has a clear vision for the farming community and wants them to play a larger role in the country's progress," he said.

Nabin noted that the government's agricultural strategy focuses not only on farmer welfare and increasing farm incomes but also on maintaining regular engagement with cultivators to understand and address their concerns.

He said continuous dialogue with farmers forms an important part of policy-making, alongside efforts aimed at improving agricultural productivity, strengthening the farm sector, and working towards the goal of higher farmer incomes.

Referring to changes introduced under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nabin pointed out that the Agriculture Ministry was renamed the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare to reflect a broader focus on the well-being of farmers.

The BJP leader is currently on a two-day visit to Jharkhand aimed at strengthening the party's organisational network and expanding outreach activities across the state.

Earlier in the day, he chaired a meeting of BJP MPs and MLAs at the party's state headquarters in Ranchi after receiving a warm welcome from party workers.

On the second day of his visit, Nabin is scheduled to travel to Bokaro, where he will meet party workers and local leaders. He will also visit the residence of state BJP president Aditya Sahu in Ormanjhi.
