DMK Rajya Sabha MP P. Wilson on Saturday alleged that the Centre’s proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act are aimed at the Christian community and have been timed to coincide with Easter to create anxiety.
Criticising the Foreign Contribution Regulation Amendment Bill 2026, Wilson claimed there was no broader national interest behind the move and accused the government of attempting to take control of properties linked to minority institutions.
He argued that provisions allowing retrospective divestment of assets were excessively harsh, comparing them to an unjust seizure of property. According to him, the proposed changes would primarily impact churches, missionary organisations and non-governmental organisations.
Wilson also questioned the rationale behind introducing such a measure when the Christian community was observing Easter, saying it had caused concern and hurt sentiments. He raised doubts over why institutions such as schools, hospitals and orphanages run by Christians were being brought under scrutiny.
Referring to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, the DMK leader said the issue had already been taken up with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asserted that the state government would oppose the bill.

The proposed amendment, introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai on March 25, aims to strengthen transparency in the use of foreign funds and prevent their misuse in ways that could affect national security and public interest.
