Veteran filmmaker R V Udayakumar and former Tamil Nadu minister Gomathi Srinivasan were among several political leaders and social activists who joined the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam on Saturday.
Udayakumar, who recently ended his long association with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, formally resigned from the party on June 16 after serving in it for nearly 25 years. He had been functioning as the head of the AIADMK's arts and cultural wing.
A prominent figure in Tamil cinema during the 1990s, Udayakumar directed several commercially successful films, including Chinna Gounder, Yajaman, Singaravelan, and Kizhakku Vaasal.
Several other leaders also joined TVK during the event, including former legislator M G M Subramanian, social activist Sema Narayanan, former politician Jagannath Misra, AIADMK functionary I C Sekar, and A N Raja, who had contested the 2021 Assembly elections from Natham.
The induction ceremony was attended by TVK general secretaries Bussy N Anand and Aadhav Arjuna, along with other senior party leaders.

The latest round of inductions is being viewed as a boost for TVK as it continues to attract leaders from various political parties and public life.
