Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday expressed serious concern over the deteriorating health of eight women following caesarean deliveries at a government hospital in Jodhpur, saying the incident reflects a sharp decline in medical standards in the state.
Referring to reports that some patients developed septicemia and kidney-related complications after surgery, Gehlot said the developments were "extremely worrying" and pointed to serious negligence in the healthcare system.
"After Kota and Bikaner, now reports from Jodhpur about the health condition of eight women deteriorating following Caesarean deliveries are deeply concerning," he said.
The senior Congress leader alleged that while attention was focused on government programmes and VIP visits, the lives of mothers were being put at risk and facts related to the incident were allegedly being suppressed.
According to Gehlot, the emergence of septicemia and kidney failure-like complications indicates significant shortcomings in hospital management and medical care.
He also announced that he would visit Jodhpur to meet the affected women and their families.
The incident occurred at the district hospital in Jodhpur's Paota area, where eight women reportedly developed complications after caesarean sections. The patients complained of excessive bleeding and low blood pressure following surgery.
