Indian diaspora in Jordan brims with excitement ahead of PM Modi's visit

Members of the Indian community in Jordan are gearing up to extend a warm welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with enthusiasm running high ahead of his visit to Amman as part of his ongoing three-nation overseas tour.

Preparations by the Indian diaspora include cultural programmes showcasing India’s rich traditions. Several community members expressed excitement mixed with nervous anticipation at the opportunity to perform before the Prime Minister. One participant, set to present a dance recital, said the moment was both thrilling and daunting, adding that she had been rehearsing intensively for the past week.

Others echoed similar sentiments, calling the Prime Minister’s visit a moment of pride for Indians living in Jordan. Community members said they were eagerly looking forward to interacting with him and showcasing their culture during the visit.

Prime Minister Modi on Monday began his tour of Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman, aimed at strengthening political ties, enhancing economic cooperation and deepening people-to-people connections with key partners in West Asia and Africa.

In his departure statement, the Prime Minister highlighted India’s age-old civilisational links and strong contemporary relations with the three countries. His visit to Jordan comes at the invitation of King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein and coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Jordan.

During his stay in Amman, PM Modi is scheduled to hold meetings with King Abdullah II, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, with talks expected to focus on expanding bilateral cooperation. He will also interact with members of the Indian community, whom he has credited with strengthening ties between the two nations.

From Jordan, the Prime Minister will travel to Ethiopia for his first-ever visit to the African nation, where he will meet Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, address a joint session of the Ethiopian Parliament and engage with the Indian diaspora.

The final leg of the tour will take him to Oman, marking 70 years of diplomatic relations, where discussions will focus on boosting strategic and economic cooperation.
